Details Usually found on the open slopes of forests.It is a herbaceous plant with a solitary terminal large white or pale pink flower , and peltate leaves. An importtant medicinal plant, its rhizome contains podophyllin. Recent practical revealed that this is a useful drug for the treatment of cancer. Ripened berry fruit is eatable and sweet in taste , with many seeds imbedded inpulp.The plant is poisonous but when processed has medicinal properties. The rhizome of the plant contains a resin, known generally and commercially as Indian Podophyllum Resin, which can be processed to extract podophyllotoxin, or podophyllin, a neurotoxin. It has been historically used as an intestinal purgative and emetic, salve for infected and necrotic wounds, and inhibitor of tumor growth.
